Why Alberta Now?

Alberta has elected representatives from national parties for generations.

Yet those parties must ultimately balance Alberta's priorities against electoral interests across the rest of Canada. Alberta Now is being formed to change that equation.

THE REPRESENTATION PROBLEM

Alberta's interest are

too often a lower priority

When an Alberta MP belongs to a national party, that MP also belongs to an organization seeking votes and seats across the country. On issues where Alberta's interests conflict with the political interests of other regions, compromise can become the price of national party unity.

Alberta Now starts with a different obligation: represent Alberta.

THE OPPORTUNITY

A different approach

is possible.

Federal politics does not require every political party to seek power in every province. A focused Alberta federal party can seek to elect MPs from Alberta and use those seats to advocate, negotiate and vote from an explicitly Alberta-first perspective.

THE PRESSURE-PARTY MODEL

Influence through

representation.

A disciplined Alberta caucus could support federal measures that serve Alberta and oppose those that do not. Where parliamentary numbers make Alberta Now votes important, those MPs could use that leverage to seek concrete outcomes for Albertans.

The objective is influence through representation - not protest for its own sake.

ALBERTA'S CONSTITUTIONAL FUTURE

A democratic right.

Alberta Now believes Albertans must be free to debate and determine their constitutional future. That includes serious discussion of greater autonomy, fundamental reform of the federation and independence.

Any change of that magnitude must be pursued peacefully, lawfully and democratically, with Albertans making the ultimate choice.
